From our travel guide

Getting married in Grand Cayman means choosing from beachfront ceremonies, resort ballrooms, and intimate garden settings. People have been tying the knot here for years, and the vendors in Cayman can sort out anything from a small ceremony for two to a big weekend bash with a hundred guests. Wedding planners, photographers, florists, caterers, musicians, and officiants all operate here, and many work together as established teams.

Seven Mile Beach is the most popular location for ceremonies, with resorts like the Ritz-Carlton, Kimpton Seafire, and Westin offering wedding packages that include the venue, catering, and a coordinator. For couples who want something other than a resort backdrop, private villas along Seven Mile Beach and in the eastern districts can be rented for ceremonies and receptions. The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park on the North Side offers a garden setting with tropical plants and a lake. Some couples charter a catamaran and get married on the water, which combines the ceremony with a sunset cruise for guests.

The legal side is straightforward. Couples need to be in Grand Cayman for at least 24 hours before applying for a marriage licence. Both parties need passports, proof of entry (the immigration card you receive on arrival), and, if previously married, divorce decrees or death certificates. You submit the application at the Government Administration Building in George Town. A Cayman Islands marriage is legally recognized in the US, UK, Canada, and most other countries. Most wedding planners can handle the licence paperwork as part of their service.

Most wedding vendors are based in George Town and along Seven Mile Beach, though they travel island-wide for events. Photographers and videographers are worth booking well ahead for peak wedding months (December through April and June). Hair and makeup artists who specialize in bridal work are available, with many offering trials in advance. If you are planning from overseas, working with a local planner is the most reliable way to coordinate vendors you cannot meet in person before the wedding week.
