Grand Cayman is one of the Caribbean's top diving destinations, with clear water, healthy coral reefs, and the one-of-a-kind Stingray City sandbar. Dive operators range from small independent shops running a single boat to larger PADI and SSI training centres running the full certification ladder: Discover Scuba experiences for first-timers, certification courses, and instructor-level training. Most shops also run snorkelling trips for non-divers and mixed groups.

The majority of dive shops operate out of West Bay and the Seven Mile Beach area, with boat departures from marinas like the West Bay Dock, Morgan's Harbour, and the North Sound. These locations give quick access to the island's signature wall dives, shallow reef sites, and the Kittiwake wreck. A smaller number of operators are based on the East End, offering trips to quieter sites on the less-dived eastern reefs. Shore diving is available at a handful of locations including Lighthouse Point and Turtle Reef.

Most shops run morning two-tank dives with an afternoon single-tank add-on, and plenty offer Stingray City trips that work for snorkellers as well as certified divers. Bring your certification card if you have one; a digital copy on your phone is accepted almost everywhere. Rental gear is standard and generally well maintained, though your own mask, fins, or dive computer adds comfort.

Water temperature holds between roughly 78 and 84 F depending on season, so a 3mm wetsuit or rash guard usually does the job. Book ahead for Christmas, Easter, and the summer holidays, when boats fill up fast.
