Grand Cayman's construction sector stays busy year-round on resort development, luxury residential projects, commercial fit-outs, and infrastructure work, and the trade covers general contractors, custom home builders, architects, engineers, and specialists in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and pool construction.
Most construction companies and trade suppliers, lumber yards, building supply stores, equipment rental, are based in the George Town industrial area. Architects and design firms tend to keep offices in George Town and Camana Bay instead. Contractors serve the whole island, but travel time out to the eastern districts still shows up in project costs and scheduling.
The Department of Planning handles building permits and inspections, and the process is slow enough that it needs its own line in the project timeline.
