About North Side

North Side runs along the northern coast of Grand Cayman, from Frank Sound west toward Rum Point. It is rural and thinly populated, and most of what brings people out here sits on or just off the North Sound: shallow, sheltered water on the inside, reef and wall on the outside.

Rum Point is the anchor, with a beach club, hammocks under the sea grape trees and calm swimming, and the ferry across the sound from Camana Bay saves the drive. Starfish Point nearby is a shallow sandbar where red cushion sea stars gather; look, photograph, and leave them in the water. Inland, the Mastic Trail cuts through two miles of old-growth dry forest, and the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is where you have a real chance of seeing a wild blue iguana. Bioluminescence tours launch into the sound after dark.

By car it is around forty-five minutes from George Town. Restaurants and shops are few and far apart, so check opening hours before setting out, and treat a full fuel tank as part of the plan.
