About West Bay
West Bay is the district at the northwest tip of the island, past the top end of Seven Mile Beach. It is more village than resort strip: residential streets, churches, small family-run businesses, and a handful of attractions that pull visitors up from the hotels. The drive from George Town takes about twenty minutes.
The Cayman Turtle Centre is the largest draw, and Hell, the field of blackened limestone formations with its own post office, is the sort of stop that takes fifteen minutes and produces a postcard. On the water side, Morgan's Harbour and the West Bay Dock are where several dive boats and charters depart, and Calypso Grill above the harbour has been a local favourite for years. Lighthouse Point and Turtle Reef are two of the island's better shore-diving entries. Barkers National Park at the far end has undeveloped beach, mangroves and the island's main kitesurfing spot.
Most businesses here sit along Northwest Point Road, West Church Street and the roads between them. Parking is easy, and the public bus route from George Town runs through regularly during the day.
