About Savannah
Savannah sits in the middle of the island's south coast, between George Town and Bodden Town, and has grown into one of the main residential districts as families have moved out of town. It is practical rather than scenic: housing developments, schools, shopping centres and the everyday businesses that go with them.
Countryside Shopping Village is the commercial anchor, with a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurants and services under one roof. Pedro St. James, on the coast just south, is the island's oldest surviving stone structure and the place where the decision to hold Cayman's first elected assembly was taken in 1831; it is worth an hour. Several of the island's schools are in or near the district, which shapes the traffic pattern around drop-off and pick-up.
The commute into George Town runs about twenty minutes outside rush hour and noticeably longer inside it. For anything not listed in Savannah, George Town is the next stop west and Bodden Town the next east.
