About George Town

George Town is the capital and the working centre of Grand Cayman. It holds the financial district, most of the island's law firms, banks and professional services, the cruise terminal, the main shopping streets, and a large share of the businesses in this directory. It is also the district most locals actually spend their weekdays in.

The waterfront around Harbour Drive and Cardinall Avenue is the visitor-facing half: duty-free shops, jewellery and watch stores, tour desks, and the tender landing where cruise passengers come ashore. A block or two inland it turns into offices, and the lunch spots there get genuinely busy between noon and 2pm. Heroes Square, the National Museum and the Cayman Islands National Gallery are all within a short walk.

Owen Roberts International Airport sits just east of the centre, so almost everything in George Town is within ten or fifteen minutes of arrivals. Parking is a mix of metered street spaces and free lots, and it thins out fast on cruise-ship days. If you are coming in from Seven Mile Beach or the eastern districts, avoid the 8am and 5pm crush.
